What the Critics Say (Testimonials)

Read what critics and consumers have to say about our Pinots!

“Simply extraordinary.. . . If this is West Coast Pinot Noir the French should start worrying because the length, the structure, the sheer acidity are just remarkable here."

--Per-Henrik Mansson, in The Wine Spectator reviewing the 1994 Broadley Vineyards Claudia‘s Choice Pinot noir (the score he gave was 97).
Broadley Vineyards
"Broadley Vineyards makes some of the lushest, thickest, most intense pinot noirs in Oregon. . . . these can be totally irresistible pinots in which the aromas and flavors of chocolate, cherries, tangerines, prosciutto, earth, and smoke mingle beautifully."
--The Wine Bible, Karen MacNeil, 2002

1994 Broadley Vineyards Claudia's Choice Pinot noir
"Simply extraordinary. Inky black in color, enormously deep and complex on the elegant nose, with berry and toasted oak notes mingling nicely. Racy, aristocratic Pinot Noir that glides over your palate to a marvelous landing. The sort of balance red Burgundy (it must be!) that has made the '94 vintage so exciting. If this is West Coast Pinot, the French should start worrying because the length, the structure, the sheer acidity are just remarkable here. Tempting now, better after 2005. (97 score)"

2008 Broadley Vineyards Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
WV 90 points:
Broadley’s 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley was bottled in June, 2009. A blend of three vineyards, it is a preview of just how good the 2008 vintage is in Willamette Valley. It offers up the superb perfume characteristic of the vintage; unlike 2007 in which spice notes dominate the aromatics, in 2008 fruit and floral aromas have the upper hand. On the palate it has layered, succulent cherry and raspberry fruit with excellent depth and balancing acidity. It has enough structure to evolve for several years but there is no need to defer your gratification. It is a sensational value in Pinot Noir.

2007 Broadley Vineyards Pinot Noir Reserve

"The 2007 Pinot Noir Reserve (900 cases) is 50% from Shea Vineyard Block 11 and 50% Zena's Crown Vineyard.  It reveals darker fruit, earth notes, toast, and a hint of minerality.  Supple, ripe, and round, this elegant effort is nicely balanced and has a lengthy, fruit-filled finish.  It will be at its best from 2011 to 2019."  90 Points

2007 Broadley Vineyards Pinot Noir Shea
"The 2007 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard has the best aromatics of the collection.  Smoke, cigar box, spice notes, black cherry, and black rasberry scents lead to a medium-bodied, suave Pinot with some well-concealed ripe tannin, excellent depth and concentration, and succulent flavors. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2011-2019."  91 Points

2007 Broadley Vineyards Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard Willamette Valley

Vivid red color. Cherry-cola and blackcurrant aromas are complemented by dried flowers and smoky minerals. Deeper and more pungent than the Stoller, offering darker fruit character and very good depth, with a snap of minerals on the back end. Maintains vivacity through the long, gently chewy finish. I really like the marriage of richness and energy displayed here. 91
